Database Search Tips and Field Explanations

CS Number: A unique CSIRO strain code. All strains have a CS-number. Enter here when the CS number is known; (eg CS-302/9. Will return multiple strains if only CS-3 entered).
Strain Designation:
Not all strains have a strain code but particular groups such as the dinoflagellates and cyanobacteria are well represented with strain codes (eg MASH01/A05 = Microcystis aeruginosa, Shepparton, 5th axenic clone isolated)
Species Name:

Enter all or part of species name
Species Synonyms:
Enter all or part of species name. The species synonyms that are returned may be prefaced by an original species identification (OI:). The original identification will not necessarily be a correct synonym.
Strain Synonyms:

The Strain synonyms returned are most commonly the codes used by other culture collections and may  include an original strain designation "Orig Desig ="
Class:

Enter all or part of Class name eg Bacillariophyceae or Bacil, Prymnesiophyceae or Prym
Class:
will be a drop down menu list
Source Locality:
This is the primary isolation location, including State, Territory or County. eg for Australian isolates we use QLD, NSW, Vic, Tas, SA, WA, NT.
Date of Isolation:

Day/Month/Year...Where day or month is unknown "1" is substituted. e.g. 1/1/1960 means isolated in 1960; 1/4/1960 means April 1960
Date of Receipt:

Date received into CCLM....Note 2/2/2222 is a default date for unknown entries but is necessary for strains imported into Australia post 1991 under Quarantine Restrictions
Toxins:

Not all strains have been tested for known toxins. In some cases, for example Microcystis, non-axenic strains that have tested positive for toxins may have been lost from the Collection but axenic clones may exist that have not been tested.
Reference Type:
