Ocean Property Maps

The following pages contain seasonal maps of physical oceanographic properties. These maps were calculated by Loess mapping onto a 1/2 degree grid at standard depths, then averaged to the depth layers required for the regionalisation analysis. The seasonal values were determined by evaluating the seasonal cycle for the mid-season day, for example "summer" is represented by the 15th January.

The properties mapped are:

temperature (degrees C) (0-50m, 150m, 800-1000m)
salinity (Practical Salinity Units - equivalent to parts/1000) (0-50m, 150m, 800-1000m)
oxygen (millilitre/litre) (0-50m, 150m, 800-1000m)
nitrate (micromolar) (0-50m, 150m, 800-1000m)
silicate (micromolar) (0-50m, 150m, 800-1000m)
phosphate (micromolar) (0-50m, 150m, 800-1000m)

Maps showing the distribution of source data are provided for each set of property maps. Note that where data is sparse, very long length scales will be used so that mapping may draw on data from outside the region shown.
