Aim
and outcome of the study
Full title of Study: Conservation Value Assessment (CVA)
for the Norfolk Seamounts marine area.
The purpose of the study is to assess whether the Norfolk
Seamounts marine area possesses biodiversity values worthy of protection.
The assessment will identify and describe any features of high conservation
value in the Norfolk Seamounts marine area and should provide an assessment
of the conservation values of the area in accordance with the identification
criteria as outlined in Guidelines for
identification of MPAs detailed in the Strategic Plan of Action for
the NRSMPA.
CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research (CMAR) will liaise
with, and seek assistance from, all interested individuals and institutions
on an initial contact list, drawn up with assistance of the Department
of the Environment and Heritage (DEH). CMR will initiate contact with
these organizations and persons, and communicate with the groups using
this web-site to post updates as the project advances. The list is not
final and will be updated during the life of the project, and this will
be done by CMR in consultation with DEH. If you are aware of other interested
parties please contact Franzis Althaus or Donna Hayes or bring this website to their attention.
The initial conservation assessment will provide, to the
greatest extent possible, a scientific assessment of the relevant and
available data, and come to a balanced conclusion regarding the question;
Does the area possess biodiversity values worthy
of protection?
