Spectacular Eddie Formations in the East Australian Current

An unusual formation of eddies occured Friday 13 December 2002. See it here

This image of Tasmania shows the tail end of the East Australian Current pushing well down past the Southern tip of Tasmania. Notice the many swirls, eddies and complex hammer-head formations off the continental shelf.

This image shows how the 'folding' of water of different temperatures causes concentric bands of different temperatures in an eddy.

Just another spectacular image . Notice evidence of 'backwash' close to the coast.
