Conclusions

• Now have sea surface colour, temperature and velocity from space. These are already being used to
  • improve fisheries efficiency
  • reduce by-catch
  • address mysteries of yield variability
  • aid the design of aquaculture ventures

• But we're still lacking comprehensive subsurface information.
• ARGO and GODAE will provide this.

• Hence, we are poised to learn what makes fishing such a risky business.

• The challenge is to incorporate this knowledge into how fish stocks are managed. Australia is well-placed to become a leader in this field.
