Preliminary Conclusions
- Altimetry good for surface currents at 20km, 10day scales.
- Certainly more eddy-scale energy off WA in La Nina years than El Nino.
- Eddy dispersion dominates wind and mean current.
- Settlements peaks may follow arrival on shelf of cold (cyclonic) eddies
- Cyclonic eddies may accumulate larvae
What's next
- more particle-tracking experiments, eg on a bigger grid
- ageostrophic velocity analyses
- vertical behaviour / settlement cue experiments
- assimilate altimetry and SST into a hydrodynamic model (ROMS)
