The World Ocean Circulation
Experiment (WOCE) Indian Ocean Upper Ocean Thermal Data Assembly Centre
(UOT/DAC) is operated by CSIRO
Marine Research (CMR, formerly CSIRO Division of Oceanography), with
the assistance of the Australian
Bureau of Meteorology Research Centre (BMRC).
The Centre's objective is
to assemble the most comprehensive UOT data set available for the Indian
Ocean over the WOCE period (1990-96) from both WOCE and non-WOCE contributors.
Its responsibility is to apply scientific quality control (QC) and analyse
the data according to common procedures implemented by the three regional
ocean centres (Indian/CSIRO, Pacific/SIO and Atlantic/AOML).
As part of the Centre's
activities, staff from the Australian Oceanographic Data Centre (AODC)
were trained in QC of UOT data through a transfer of technology and expertise
program.
