Project summary

This project aims to develop improved seasonal climate forecasts based on an understanding of the coupled ocean/atmosphere system, with particular emphasis on the long-time scale controlled by ocean heat content. Forecasts will be targeted for specific regions, industries and users. This project is an important component of the Wealth from Oceans Flagship, Theme 2, Stream 2, “Oceans to rains: Targeted climate forecasts for regional Australia”.

Project objectives

Improve the skill and value of seasonal climate forecasts by improved understanding of ocean/atmosphere dynamics, particularly synoptic causes of rainfall, and the relationship to ocean temperatures.
